Curriculum & Evaluation
At Alpha G.K. Matriculation Higher Secondary School, our curriculum is designed not just to meet academic benchmarks, but to shape well-rounded, knowledgeable, and responsible individuals. We follow a comprehensive and structured curriculum based on the Tamil Nadu Matriculation and Higher Secondary Board guidelines, enriched with innovative practices, digital tools, and value-based education.
Our academic strategy is complemented by Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) — a proven system that monitors both scholastic and co-scholastic development of every student throughout the academic year.
Academic Curriculum
Our syllabus is dynamic, interactive, and progressive. It integrates core subjects like:
- Languages: English, Tamil, and Hindi (with certification support from Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha)
- Mathematics
- Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
- Social Science
- Computer Science & Information Technology
- General Knowledge & Moral Education
The curriculum is supported by smart classrooms, labs, field visits, and project-based learning, ensuring concept clarity, critical thinking, and creativity.
Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE)
CCE is an integral part of our assessment approach, aiming to:
- Evaluate all aspects of a student’s development — cognitive, emotional, physical, and social
- Promote regular learning rather than one-time exam preparation
- Minimize academic stress and encourage consistent performance
Promotion Policy
- Promotion is based on the cumulative performance across Formative and Summative Assessments.
- Students must pass in both academic and co-scholastic criteria to be promoted.
- No special tests will be conducted for absentees. Failure to attend exams without valid reasons affects rankings and progression.
- A student failing twice in the same class will not be allowed to continue in the school.
Progress Reports
Parents receive detailed progress reports after each test and examination cycle, including:
- Academic performance
- Teacher feedback
- Areas of improvement
- Suggestions for support at home
These reports must be signed and returned within 3 days, reinforcing a strong parent-school partnership.
Evaluation Structure
Scholastic Areas
Assessments are divided into:
- Formative Assessments (FA): 40 Marks
These include class tests, quizzes, assignments, oral work, practicals, and projects. - Summative Assessments (SA): 60 Marks
These are traditional pen-and-paper tests conducted at the end of each term. - Total (FA + SA): 100 Marks
