Examination Rules & Promotion Criteria

Examination Rules & Promotion Criteria

At Alpha G.K. Matriculation Higher Secondary School, assessments are not merely tests of memory, but tools to measure understanding, track progress, and guide future learning. We follow a structured and transparent examination policy in line with the Tamil Nadu Matriculation Board and incorporate the principles of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE).

Our aim is to ensure that every student is assessed fairly, consistently, and holistically — leading to just and merit-based promotion.

Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE)

Our assessment system includes both Formative Assessments (FA) and Summative Assessments (SA) throughout the academic year.

Formative Assessment (FA) – 40 Marks
  • Class tests, worksheets, oral assessments, activities, projects
Summative Assessment (SA) – 60 Marks
  • Terminal examinations based on syllabi completed during the term
Final Grade = FA (40) + SA (60) = 100 Marks

Results & Report Cards

  • Academic progress reports are issued after every term.
  • Parents must sign and return the report cards within 3 working days.
  • Final results declared at the end of the year are binding and non-negotiable.

Guidance and Support

  • Students needing academic help are encouraged to attend remedial sessions and interact with teachers regularly.
  • The school provides counseling and progress tracking for students requiring academic intervention.

Examination Guidelines for Students

Mandatory Attendance

  • Students must appear for all scheduled tests, term exams, and practicals.
  • Absence without valid reason or approval from the Principal will result in loss of marks and forfeiture of ranks.

No Retests

  • The school does not conduct special tests or re-examinations for absentees unless under exceptional, pre-approved circumstances.
  • Missed assessments cannot be rescheduled, and the student will have to forgo the marks for that test.

Examination Conduct

  • Students must maintain strict discipline and silence during exams.
  • Any form of malpractice or cheating will result in immediate disqualification, parental intimation, and disciplinary action.

Exam Materials

  • Students should carry their own writing materials, geometry boxes, and other permitted tools.
  • Sharing or borrowing during exams is not allowed.

Promotion Criteria

Promotion is based on the following guidelines:

Consistent Performance

  • Students must perform satisfactorily in all Formative and Summative Assessments.
  • Academic reports from all three terms are considered for promotion.

Minimum Pass Marks

  • A minimum of 35% marks (33 marks out of 100) is required in each subject.

Compulsory Participation

  • Attendance in practical subjects, project submissions, co-scholastic activities, and life skills assessments is mandatory.

Failure Policy

  • A student who fails in the same class for two consecutive years will not be permitted to continue in the school.
